Palio delle Mura

The Palio delle Mura in Peschiera del Garda, now in its 33rd year, returns: it is a traditional, and very competitive, Venetian-style rowing race around the channels of the "Fortress".

Whether on the high ramparts or on the walls, whether on the bridges or along the lake's shore...come and see this event and immerse yourself in the enthusiasm of the fans. 
The rowing contest takes place along a course which is unique in its kind: it unwinds around the 16th-century city walls for two laps. 
It is said that in the 1930s, the fishermen would challenge one another in this type of race. The boats used are built following the models used by fishermen in those years. About 20 traditional boats take part in the race. They are called "gondole gardesane" ("Gondolas from the Garda"), and they compete with two rowers who use the "voga alla veneta" technique - standing up to row.

The days of the Palio delle Mura are a unique celebration which offers a great chance to visit the city and its 16th-century Venetian walls.
